Estro is a small Portuguese speaker company. We build vintage-inspired, high-sensitivity loudspeakers by hand — big, bold statement pieces that sound alive even at low volume and still look like furniture. There are two of us, two workshops, and no real hurry.

Loudspeakers got boring. And, somewhere along the way, ugly. Boxes engineered to win a measurement, then hidden in a corner so no-one had to look at them.
We think a speaker should be a piece of furniture you'd keep anyway, and that it should play music like the band has arrived in the room, not been pushed at you through a wall.
So we build the un-boring one, by hand, one set at a time.

Sensitive speakers don't need much. A single watt, a decent record and a room you actually use is plenty. Every pair is tuned against a reference curve and then finished by ear, because how it sounds in a real room matters as much as how it measures.

Estro started because Dave wanted a speaker that didn't exist: something with the presence of the vintage horns he'd fallen for, in a cabinet he'd actually want in his living room. The first one was built on a kitchen table, and it got out of hand, in the best way.
Today Estro is two people in two places. Christian, our master carpenter, builds every cabinet in Ericeira, splitting his time between high end furniture concepts, cabins and Estro. Dave assembles, tests and tunes each pair in Lisbon, against a reference curve and by ear.
How a pair
is made.
No production line and no shortcuts. Each pair takes about six weeks from board to box, and most of that is waiting for oil to cure and for us to agree it sounds right.
Choose the wood
Solid pine, sorted by grain and weight. Six woods and four stains to choose from, each a little different to the next, none of them bad.
Join the cabinet
Cut, joined and clamped on Christian's bench in Ericeira, with the same joints and tolerances you'd expect from bespoke furniture. Braced by hand so the box stays quiet.
Pair the drivers
Woofers and compression drivers measured and matched to within 0.3 dB, in pairs. The horn is CNC'd, then sanded by hand.
Assemble and tune
The electronics go in with Dave in Lisbon. Once the cabinet is sealed, every pair is tuned against a reference curve and then by ear, with real records, until it sounds right.

A speaker should outlast the trend that sold it. Solid wood, serviceable parts, a ten-year warranty, and drivers you can still get in twenty years.

Sold straight from the workshop, no middleman and no rush. Six weeks of lead time is just what it costs to do it properly, and we think that's a fair trade.

The best way to understand an Estro is to hear one in a real room with a record you love. The listening room in Lisbon is open by appointment, so book a slot and bring your own vinyl.
